BIRD KEY YACHT CLUB
STANDING OUT AT BIRD KEY YACHT CLUB
In this exclusive neighborhood of elegant waterfront homes and attractive, luxury real estate, the Bird Key Yacht Club stands out as far more than simply a club for boaters; it’s an all-inclusive and wide-ranging yachting and social club that has emerged as the heart and soul of the Bird Key community. Since development on Bird Key began in earnest in 1959, the club has been a second home to area boaters and non-boaters as well, extending Bird Key’s gracious island hospitality to all the club’s members and their guests.
AN AMAZING LOCATION TO CALL HOME
Bird Key Yacht Club sits on the former site of the New Edzell Castle, a mansion built in 1914 by Thomas Worcester, a Cincinnati native who fell in love with the area after several trips to the area. He purchased Bird Key in 1906 and built the mansion for his wife. Circus mogul John Ringling purchased the home and the rest of Bird Key in 1922, and his sister lived in the home until 1950. In 1959 the mansion was replaced by the elegant new Bird Key Yacht Club, designed in the dynamic Colonial Bahamian architectural style. The club has subsequently undergone a number of renovations and upgrades, most recently in 2011; Bird Key Yacht Club is always seeking ways to improve the club and the services it offers.
Bird Key Yacht Club offers superlative waterfront dining, several dining rooms, a full menu of favorites — for both casual and formal dining — and spectacular, panoramic views of Sarasota Bay and the Sarasota skyline. The club also features 3 Har-Tru tennis courts, a comprehensive fitness center, an Olympic-sized heated pool and deck, 3 meeting rooms, and a reciprocal agreement with the nearby Laurel Oak Country Club which gives members access to the 2 world-class, 18-hole golf courses there. The marina maintains docks, lefts, and slips for rent by members as well as secure kayak storage and a launching dock.
Most importantly, Bird Key Yacht Club members become part of an exclusive, family-friendly community that encourages neighborliness and good fellowship. The club sponsors a full agenda of social events including boating events, special dinners and luncheons, art and fashion shows, bridge and Mah-Jongg, and scheduled bicycling and kayaking trips. Bird Key Yacht Club is part of the greater Sarasota Bay Yachting Association. Bird Key Yacht Club is set near a number of luxury homes on beautiful Bird Key. It’s just one of a long list of reasons homebuyers choose Bird Key.
